During COP28, All-China Environment Federation took the lead in hosting more than 20 events, participated deeply in and supported the work of the China Pavilion, and prepared the Solar+ Pavilion and a two-week agenda in the Blue Zone of the conference.ACEF systematically presented the Chinese civil actions in response to climate change to the delegates from various countries and focused on discussing the synergistic mechanisms between climate change and other environmental issues with stakeholders. Mr. Xie Yuhong, Secretary General of CEPF, made an opening speech, sharing the meaning of the concept of ecological civilization and the connection between the important environmental issues under the framework of ecological civilization and the response to climate change. Afterwards, Gao Jinyi, Secretary General of the Youth Committee of the China Environmental Federation, and Chen Xiaochen, Chairperson of the Sustainability Committee of Turnaround, shared their cases and practices from the perspectives of biodiversity conservation and sustainable consumption respectively. Mr. Du Shaozhong, Vice President of ACEF, gave an opening speech, and Professor Zeng Fanxu from the School of Journalism and Communication at Tsinghua University shared the latest research results on the analysis of crowd values and climate narratives, followed by a discussion on the key points and strategies of climate communication for young people with representatives from the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), China Environmental Protection Association (ACEF), UNFCCC YOUNGO and representatives from the Energy Foundation. Under the guidance of the Ecology Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, ACEF and the China Green Carbon Foundation co-hosted a side event on "Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Change Synergy Mechanism" on the opening day of COP28 at the China Pavilion. The event discussed the synergies, effects, and roles of various stakeholders between the climate and biodiversity conventions, based on the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, from the perspectives of climate adaptation and mainstreaming biodiversity conservation. The side event was co-organized by international organizations such as the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), The Nature Conservancy (TNC), and WildAid. December 1-3 - China Pavilion Exchange Area Opened Ding Xue Xiang, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, visited the China Pavilion to learn about sustainable souvenirs, panda-themed sculptures, and dolls designed and produced by the ACEF team. The tea art and calligraphy tables, operated by volunteers from the ACEF and China Pavilion, were warmly welcomed by international guests, with a continuous stream of participants engaging in the activities. December 4 - Opportunities and Challenges for Civil Society Participation in Local Dual Carbon Governance Side Event Xie Zhenhua, China's Special Envoy for Climate Change, delivered opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of civil society in climate change work and expressing hope for continued mobilization of the entire society to participate in dual carbon governance. Pan Jiahua, Deputy Director of the National Climate Change Expert Committee, provided a systematic interpretation of the local dual carbon governance issue. Representatives from the government, businesses, and NGOs discussed the topic of local dual carbon governance. The event aimed to showcase China's achievements in ecological protection and restoration and in the work of forests and grasslands to address climate change. Experts and scholars from enterprises, think tanks, universities, research institutions, international organizations, and NGOs were invited to discuss the phased results and typical cases of climate and biodiversity co-governance promoted by nature-based solutions by both international and domestic organizations. December 8 - Green Belt and Road Initiative Cases and Practices Side Event at the China Pavilion Li Ruidong, Deputy Secretary-General of ACEF, delivered a speech. Domestic and international guests discussed the opportunities and challenges in the construction of the Green Belt and Road. On December 8, the side event on "Green Belt and Road Initiative Cases and Practices," hosted by the All-China Environment Federation and co-organized by the Green Development International Alliance of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Beijing Green Research and Development Center, was successfully held in the second area of the China Pavilion. Former UN Deputy Secretary-General Solheim, Executive Dean Zhang Jianyu of the Green Development Research Institute of the Belt and Road Initiative, and Deputy Secretary-General Li Ruidong of the All-China Environment Federation delivered speeches. Experts from the United Nations Women's Agency, the British Renewable Energy Association, the University of International Business and Economics, the International Environmental Law Research Center, China Automotive Technology & Research Center Co., Ltd. December 10 - Plastics Convention and Climate Convention Synergy Mechanism Seminar On December 10, the All-China Environment Federation invited experts from the Climate and Energy Research Institute, the TERRE Policy Center, the University of Maryland, the Energy Research Institute of Peking University, the Alashan SEE Foundation, and Alibaba Local Services to share their views on the synergies between plastic pollution control and climate change response. During the conference, Xie Yuhong, Secretary-General of the Federation, also met with Jacob Duer, Global Director of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW), to discuss the potential and cooperation space for Chinese civil organizations in plastic pollution control. December 11 - China Pavilion Closing Day Dinner Staff and institutional representatives involved in the preparation, daily management, and organization of side events at the China Pavilion gathered at the closing day dinner of the China Pavilion, sharing their experiences and insights from the two-week conference. The atmosphere was lively. Sun Zhen, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Delegation, attended the event and shared the progress of the negotiations and insights from attending the Climate Conference. Ni Yao, Deputy Director of the International Department of the All-China Environment Federation, presided over the dinner. Solar+ Pavilion Highlights: Solar+ Pavilion Opening Ceremony - On November 30, the opening day of the Climate Conference, Secretary-General Xie Yuhong attended the opening ceremony of the Federation's independent venue "Solar+ Pavilion" and delivered a speech, sharing the concept of "Great China, Great Environment, Great Alliance" of the All-China Environment Federation with the participants, as well as the idea of building the Solar+ Pavilion with LONGi Green Energy to promote photovoltaic power in supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. At the opening ceremony, Tencent Group, Beijing Drainage Group, and international guests from the Americas, Europe, and Africa shared their explorations and practices on the theme of photovoltaic power aiding sustainable development. After the opening event, Xie Yuhong, Secretary-General of the All-China Environment Federation, along with Zhang Jianxin, Chairman of Beijing Drainage Group, and Liu Dake, Chairman of Beipai Energy, received Sabrina Soussan, Chairman and CEO of Suez Group, at the Federation's meeting room in the Blue Zone of COP28.
